Mechanical Tradesperson - Rail Maintenance (West Kalgoorlie)

About the role

Aurizon, Australia's largest rail freight operator, is hiring a qualified Light Vehicle or Diesel Mechanic for its West Kalgoorlie depot. You will maintain locomotives, wagons, plant and infrastructure so freight services run safely and reliably. Minimal day-to-day supervision means you plan and prioritise your own work, solve problems and make sound maintenance decisions. Training is provided, so no rail experience is needed.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine, corrective and breakdown maintenance
• Work safely and comply with WHS, legislative and operational requirements
• Maintain accurate maintenance and asset records
• Report completed work against maintenance plans
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability and maintenance practices
• Communicate work progress and emerging issues with stakeholders

Required profile

• Mechanical trade qualification (Light Vehicle and Diesel Mechanics encouraged to apply)
• Proven reliability, personal accountability and confidence managing work independently
• Clear communication skills and confidence to escalate issues to an off-site leader
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Workplace Health and Safety Act
• Category 1 Rail Medical, including drug and alcohol screening, as part of the pre-employment process

Required skills

• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting experience
• Ability to interpret schematics and technical drawings
• Computer literacy and discipline to keep accurate records
• Locomotive and wagon experience is desirable but not essential, as training is provided
