Mechanical Project Engineer - Desalination Plant Commissioning

About the role

ACCIONA is commissioning the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant in Perth, a $2.8 billion project delivering 150 million litres of drinking water per day. Reporting to the Manager, Commissioning, the Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for the start-up, testing and handover of the plant's mechanical systems, working with construction, operations, vendor and contractor teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures and schedules for pumps, piping, valves, pressure vessels and rotating equipment
• Coordinate with construction, operations and vendor teams to ensure readiness for commissioning
• Carry out pre-commissioning checks, mechanical completion verification and punch list clearance
• Perform functional and performance tests and monitor flow rates, pressures, vibration and alignment during start-up
• Document test results, prepare commissioning reports and resolve mechanical issues with vendors and contractors
• Support equipment modifications, repairs and optimisation, and ensure work meets safety, environmental and quality requirements
• Take part in risk assessments and support training and handover to operations teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Experience commissioning mechanical systems on water, desalination or process plants highly regarded
• Experience in mechanical completion, performance testing and punch list management
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work with vendors, contractors and operations teams
• Safety-first attitude

Required skills

• Working knowledge of pumps, piping, valves, pressure vessels and rotating equipment
• Reading and interpreting P&IDs and equipment specifications
