Mechanical Engineer – Defence Missile Programme

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) Programme. The role supports design, development and sustainment of critical defence products within a high‑volume production environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide manufacturing engineering support to resolve production issues, material review boards and configuration control.
• Maintain design changes and technical data packages for missile sub‑assemblies and components.
• Design and sustain automated test equipment for factory acceptance testing of missile subsystems.
• Conduct developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) and analysis to substantiate design changes.
• Support Quality Assurance with investigations into MRB, FRB, FRACAS and root‑cause corrective actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Aeronautical Engineering.
• Engineering accreditation (NER, CPEng) or eligibility.
• Australian citizenship with ability to obtain defence security clearance and ITAR eligibility.
• Professional engineering experience, preferably with missile or weapons system mechanical design.

Required skills

• Mechanical design of missile components and sub‑assemblies.
• Automated test equipment development and factory acceptance testing.
• Knowledge of AS9100 quality standards, First Article Inspections (FAIs) and APQP processes.
• Experience in high‑volume or rate‑production environments.
• Understanding of ITAR regulations and defence security requirements.
