Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation Equipment

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast‑growing automation equipment manufacturer in Adelaide. The successful candidate will be responsible for turning concepts into fully engineered products, supporting the entire development cycle from initial sketches to final production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
• Manage the product lifecycle from concept through to manufacturing and assembly.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, testing and project management, to ensure timely delivery.
• Liaise with external fabricators and suppliers, preparing technical documentation, BOMs and MRP entries.
• Perform hand calculations, prototype testing and final assembly verification.
• Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation and ensure drawings are signed off.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience designing machinery with moving mechanisms, actuators, drives, gearboxes, conveyors or similar assemblies.
• Solid understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic system design.
• Hands‑on experience with fabricated steelwork, sheet metal, machined components and welded assemblies.
• Ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and work within budgets.
