Manager – Southern Wildlife Operations

About the role

The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation is seeking an experienced manager to lead its Southern Wildlife Operations team. This senior position provides strategic direction and operational oversight for the sustainable management of protected wildlife across Queensland’s southern regions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a geographically dispersed team to deliver wildlife conservation and regulatory programs.
• Develop and implement risk‑based regulation, partnership frameworks and intelligence‑led compliance initiatives.
• Provide high‑level advice to the Director of Southern Wildlife and Koala Operations.
• Ensure key projects and initiatives are delivered on time, within scope and aligned with state priorities.
• Identify emerging policy, legislative and operational issues and shape strategic direction for the branch.
• Oversee community engagement, education programs and stakeholder collaboration, including with First Nations groups.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing dispersed teams in a conservation or environmental context.
• Strong understanding of wildlife policy, legislation and regulatory processes.
• Proven ability to develop strategic plans and deliver complex projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Commitment to public safety, conservation outcomes and regulatory integrity.
