Manager, Hedge Accounting

About the role

Westpac is seeking a Manager for its Hedge Accounting team in Sydney. The role combines technical finance expertise with advisory support to Treasury, focusing on balance‑sheet management, funding, liquidity and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure completeness, accuracy and integrity of hedge accounting across assigned portfolios.
• Oversee calculations, reserves and journal entries related to hedge strategies.
• Maintain compliance with IFRS/AASB standards and support regulatory and external reporting.
• Assist audit processes and provide documentation for hedge accounting activities.
• Analyse P&L volatility, hedge effectiveness and the impact of new trades or strategy changes.
• Advise senior Treasury stakeholders on complex accounting requirements and influence hedging decisions.

Required profile

• Experience in institutional banking or financial markets within a finance/hedge accounting function.
• Strong understanding of time‑value‑of‑money concepts for financial instrument valuation.
• Technical accounting expertise in IFRS/AASB standards.
• CA, CFA or CPA qualification (or actively pursuing).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Access or similar database tools is desirable.
• Ability to engage multiple stakeholders and manage competing deadlines.
