Main Component Upgrade (MCU) Wind Turbine Technician - Mechanical

About the role

The Main Component Upgrade (MCU) Technician (Mechanical) works within the existing team on GE Vernova's Onshore Wind Services, carrying out Main Component Upgrade and Uptower Repair work on wind turbines across Australia under the direction of the MCU Lead. The role is flexible on East Coast locations and follows a 3:1 roster across different wind farms.

Key responsibilities

• Work in small hands-on work groups during on-site MCU/UTR execution
• Carry out MCU work with major crane operations, involving GE MCU teams, local employees, third-party contractors and crane vendors
• Inspect major parts for damage and confirm they are the right type or configuration for the turbine
• Check and validate inventory tooling and parts needed for MCU operations
• Follow GE manuals, specifications and bulletins, and complete documentation and reports on MCU/UTR work
• Perform work in line with JSA, LOTO, EHS and other safety policies, and report errors, incidents and hazards immediately
• Submit enquiries to Engineering and answer questions from Management, Engineering, Sourcing and Project teams
• Decide on conformance or non-conformance after inspections and report to the MCU lead, FPM or CMS
• Work weekends and nights if required, perform high-voltage switching per site procedure, and cooperate with investigations and EHS audits

Required profile

• Trade-qualified mechanical tradesperson with electrical aptitude
• Experience in wind farm O&M, installation and heavy-lift main component exchange
• Intermediate-level computer skills
• Eligibility to work in Australia (PR, Australian or New Zealand citizen)
• Willingness to travel nationally or internationally on a 3 weeks on, 1 week off roster
• Desirable: wind farm industry experience, GWO/GWO ART qualification, dogging/rigging/framing tickets

• Positive attitude, strong organisation and problem-solving, able to multi-task and work independently
• Ability to handle physically demanding work at heights
