Legal Counsel – Litigation

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to lead regulatory litigation across the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) and various NSW courts. The successful candidate will join a collaborative legal team dedicated to public‑interest work and will play a pivotal role in upholding professional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regulatory litigation in NCAT and NSW courts, preparing and filing court documents, submissions and correspondence.
• Investigate allegations of unqualified legal practice, gather evidence, prepare witnesses and brief counsel as required.
• Draft legal advice, opinions and procedural documents.
• Work closely with internal regulatory, investigations and professional standards teams.
• Manage multiple matters simultaneously while ensuring procedural fairness and compliance with model litigant standards.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years post‑qualification experience with a current practising certificate.
• Demonstrated experience in litigation, regulatory enforcement, professional discipline or comparable dispute practice.
• Strong judgment, ability to prioritise and manage a diverse caseload.
• Clear understanding of procedural fairness, professional obligations and model litigant standards.
• Excellent written and oral communication, persuasive and objective.
• Proven stakeholder‑management skills and a collaborative working style.
