Legal Counsel

About the role

Bradken is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to provide practical legal, compliance and risk advice across its global operations. Reporting to the Head of Governance & Risk, you will work with teams in Australia, Asia, North America and other regions, balancing legal judgement with commercial realities in a complex industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, licences, tender documents, leases and customer‑supplier agreements.
• Advise on contractual, regulatory and compliance matters, including risk mitigation strategies.
• Support Sales and Operations with contract terms, standard agreements, dealer arrangements and customer negotiations.
• Provide guidance on disputes, investigations and compliance incidents.
• Manage external legal advisors and brief external lawyers on matters.
• Assist with insurance renewals and coordinate with the insurance broker.
• Improve legal templates, workflows, systems and processes, leveraging legal technology and AI‑assisted review where appropriate.
• Develop policies, procedures and training to help the business manage legal and compliance obligations.

Required profile

• Australian legal qualification with strong commercial legal experience, preferably from both private practice and in‑house roles.
• Proven experience drafting, reviewing, interpreting and negotiating commercial contracts, tender documents, licences and customer‑supplier agreements.
• Solid understanding of domestic and international commercial legal frameworks.
• Experience advising on compliance matters, contractual risk, disputes, investigations and risk mitigation.
• Track record of managing external legal advisors and briefing external lawyers.
• Exposure to equipment supply, technical services, intellectual property, design obligations or complex customer‑supplier arrangements.
• Familiarity with the mining, energy, heavy manufacturing or industrial services sectors.
