Lecturer or Senior Lecturer – English Literature (Full‑time)

About the role

The School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland is seeking two outstanding academics to join its vibrant community as Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in English Literature. The role combines high‑quality teaching, innovative research and active engagement with students and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English literature, including curriculum design and assessment.
• Establish and lead a research programme, publish in reputable journals, and seek external research funding.
• Supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students, providing academic counselling and mentorship.
• Contribute to departmental service through committees, partnership development and community outreach.
• Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines, supporting interdisciplinary projects and digital/environmental humanities initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD in English Literature or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly research and a growing teaching portfolio.
• Potential to develop a strong reputation in the discipline, with interests that may include contemporary fiction, transnational literatures, Australian literature, literary theory, digital humanities, or gender and diversity studies.
• Commitment to high standards of academic integrity and university values.

Required skills

• Academic research and scholarly writing skills.
• Effective teaching and curriculum development abilities.
• Experience in supervising graduate students.

• Full‑time permanent positions at Level B (Lecturer) or Level C (Senior Lecturer) with salary ranges $119,462‑$168,043 AUD plus 17% superannuation.
