Lead/Principal Okta Engineer - Workflows & Identity Governance

About the role

Versent is seeking a highly experienced Lead/Principal Engineer in Okta Workflows and Okta Identity Governance (OIG) to provide technical leadership on a large, multi-year identity transformation program in the health sector. You will help move the customer from fragmented processes, inconsistent identity data and manual intervention to automated, governed and auditable provisioning and deprovisioning, setting technical direction and leading delivery while staying close to implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Own the current-state assessment, target-state design, implementation, migration and operational handover, and guide engineers and resolve technical challenges
• Architect, build, test, operate and optimise joiner, mover and leaver automation, including integrations, approvals, exception handling, reconciliation, observability and secure API patterns
• Design auditable access requests, approvals, entitlements, access catalogues, certifications, reviews and lifecycle controls, including phased coexistence and migration from legacy IGA
• Define authoritative data sources, improve data quality and replace manual provisioning with governed integrations using SCIM, REST APIs, directories, HR, ITSM, SaaS and custom applications
• Apply privacy, least privilege, separation of duties, auditability and controlled change principles, and design for resilience and safe fallback
• Set standards for design, testing, release, monitoring and documentation, run workshops, mentor engineers and build reusable assets

Required profile

• Recent, hands-on experience designing, building, testing and operating Okta Workflows in complex enterprise environments
• Experience delivering Okta Identity Governance or comparable IGA solutions, including access requests, approvals, entitlements, access catalogues, certifications, reviews and audit controls
• Proven success replacing fragmented or manual provisioning with automated, governed solutions, with knowledge of identity lifecycle management, JML, data quality, attribute mastering and deprovisioning
• Ability to integrate Okta with HR platforms, Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID, ITSM tools, SaaS and custom applications via REST APIs, SCIM, JSON and webhooks
• Strong engineering and operational capability across validation, error handling, reconciliation, retries, observability, secure secrets management, testing and production support
• Proven principal-level leadership, with communication, consulting and mentoring skills
• Desirable: healthcare or highly regulated environment experience, complex identity transformation experience, Workday, ServiceNow, Terraform, CI/CD, SailPoint, CyberArk or Auth0 experience
