Lawyer – Fixed‑term (Hybrid) in Perth

About the role

The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) is seeking two qualified lawyers for fixed‑term positions based in Perth. Working in a hybrid model, you will support the Minister for Commerce, Local Government and Racing and Gaming by providing legal advice, drafting documents and representing the department in complex matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑the‑spot and written legal advice across a range of statutory matters.
• Conduct litigation and manage proceedings in the Supreme Court, District Court and other jurisdictions, including instructing counsel.
• Draft legal documents, including advice letters, contracts and policy instruments.
• Assist senior lawyers with preparation of complex legal advice and strategic recommendations.
• Contribute to the design and delivery of internal and external education programmes.

Required profile

• Degree in Law.
• Current Australian practising certificate that permits work as a government legal practitioner, or eligibility to obtain one before start date.
