Laboratory Assistant

About the role

Eurofins is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join its Murarrie, Brisbane facility. The role involves preparing soil and water samples, supporting analysis, and maintaining laboratory standards in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort, and assign soil and water samples using the ELVIS database and prepare batch sheets in Microsoft Excel.
• Weigh samples, transfer subsamples to appropriate laboratory departments, and extract analytes according to SOPs.
• Ensure traceability of prepared or vialled samples and perform quality‑control tests.
• Prioritise urgent samples, handle quarantine specimens per AQIS procedures, and manage waste safely.
• Replenish consumables, calibrate POVAs, syringes, steppers, solvent dispensers and other equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organised laboratory and undertake additional duties as directed.

Required profile

• No science degree required; Year 11 chemistry and mathematics understanding.
• No minimum experience required, though prior lab experience is beneficial.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with strong attention to detail.
• Desire to continuously learn, entrepreneurial spirit, and hands‑on work ethic.
• Strategic thinking mindset and currently based in Brisbane.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for batch sheet preparation.
• Ability to calibrate laboratory equipment such as POVAs, syringes, steppers, and solvent dispensers.
