Kitchen Steward

About the role

Sofitel Brisbane Central, a Sofitel property in the heart of Brisbane city, is looking for a dedicated and efficient Kitchen Steward. The role keeps the kitchen facilities clean, hygienic and well organised, supporting a smooth and safe operation for the culinary team. The position is casual.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and sanitise all kitchen areas, including floors, walls and work surfaces, following cleaning schedules and food safety standards.
• Wash, sanitise and store kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes and glassware, using industrial dishwashers or hand washing as appropriate.
• Maintain food storage areas such as refrigerators, freezers and dry storage, keeping them organised and clean.
• Remove and dispose of kitchen waste regularly.
• Report hazards and maintenance issues to Kitchen Management and comply with health and safety regulations.
• Work with kitchen staff to keep the area efficient and organised, take part in cleaning inspections and quality checks, and help with extra kitchen duties as needed.

Required profile

• At least 6 months' experience in a similar role, preferably in a commercial kitchen or hospitality setting.
• Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
• Physical stamina for standing long periods and heavy lifting, pushing and pulling.
• Attention to detail, good time management and flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and nights.
• Basic understanding of kitchen operations and equipment, and ability to work in a fast-paced team.
