Junior Lawyer – Disputes & Litigation

About the role

We are seeking a Junior Lawyer to join the ABC’s Legal team in Sydney. The successful candidate will support high‑profile disputes, litigation and media‑law matters across the organisation, gaining exposure to defamation, copyright, contempt of court, suppression orders, intellectual property and regulatory investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with complaints, litigation and legal research across the ABC.
• Draft pleadings, court documents and legal correspondence.
• Provide pre‑publication legal advice on media‑law issues.
• Brief and instruct external counsel.
• Support litigation management, including subpoenas and compulsory information requests.
• Collaborate with legal colleagues and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
• At least two years post‑qualification experience in litigation.
• Strong legal research, drafting and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
• Interest in media law, including defamation, copyright and freedom of expression.
