Junior Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

Compass is looking for a Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join its Technology team in Melbourne. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience protecting a global school‑management platform, working side‑by‑side with senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and triage security alerts, escalating significant findings.
• Run vulnerability scans and support remediation across applications and cloud environments.
• Investigate phishing, malware, and suspicious activity and document results.
• Assist with incident response under senior guidance.
• Maintain security documentation, runbooks, and knowledge resources.
• Support compliance tasks such as evidence gathering and access reviews.
• Stay informed about emerging threats and share insights with the team.
• Perform ad‑hoc security tasks as directed.

Required profile

• Basic understanding of cyber security concepts and common threats.
• Familiarity with networking, operating systems, and at least one cloud platform.
• Willingness to develop scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, or Bash).
• Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and a security‑first mindset.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Eagerness to learn from senior engineers.
