Instructor in charge – Learn to Swim program

About the role

The City of Onkaparinga is seeking an Instructor in charge to lead the Learn to Swim program at the Noarlunga Aquatic and Recreation Centre. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality swimming lessons, mentoring fellow instructors, and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for all participants.

Key responsibilities

• Teach swimming and water‑safety skills to children and adults of all abilities.
• Plan, adapt, and deliver lesson programmes that meet diverse learner needs.
• Assess swimmer progress, provide constructive feedback, and track development.
• Support, mentor, and supervise other swimming instructors.
• Oversee daily operations of the swim programme, including scheduling and resource management.
• Promote and implement the Watch Around Water safety initiative.

Required profile

• Strong teaching abilities and a genuine passion for water education.
• Experience leading or supervising a team in a recreational or educational setting.
• Excellent communication skills to engage both children and adults.

Required skills

• AUSTSWIM (or equivalent) Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety certification.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Working with Children Check clearance.
• Child Safe Environments training.
