Instructional Coach – Science Teacher

About the role

Curriculum Associates is hiring an experienced science teacher to work as an Instructional Coach for Stile, its science curriculum for Australian secondary schools. The role combines teaching regular science classes in partner schools with coaching teachers and designing professional learning, based on the Science Teaching Excellence Framework. It is a full-time position based in a major capital city; if you are not in Melbourne you work from home, and you will travel regularly to schools across your state.

Key responsibilities

• Run implementation meetings with school leaders and Heads of Science, agree on a framework focus for the year and ensure teachers are set up and confident.
• Deliver Stilist in Schools days: teach a full day of regular science classes while the faculty observes, then lead the debrief.
• Hold three data reviews per year with each school, reviewing how teachers use Stile and agreeing a plan for the next term.
• Design and deliver professional learning such as Demo Lessons, roadshows and in-person and virtual sessions, aligned to the framework and adult learning theory.
• Build relationships with Heads of Science and school leadership, and feed back to the product and content teams.

Required profile

• Science teacher with real classroom credibility, preferably with secondary science experience; past experience as a Head of Science, instructional coach or learning specialist is helpful.
• Experience teaching with Stile is an advantage.
• Comfortable in front of a principal, able to coach teachers with specific, usable and kind feedback, and able to read usage reports and framework rubrics.
• Organised and self-directed enough to manage a diary across a state with many schools and travel.

Success criteria

• Within 6 months: deep understanding of Stile and the framework, solo Stilist in Schools days, first data review with every implementing and platinum Head of Science, and implementation plans in place.
• Within 12 months: 95% retention of implementing schools and 90% renewal of platinum schools, three data reviews per school, and Heads of Science describing you as part of their team.
