Industrial Officer (Senior Grade) x2

About the role

The Independent Education of Australia NSW/ACT Branch represents more than 30,000 teachers and support staff in Catholic schools, independent schools and other non-government organisations. It is seeking two experienced Industrial Officers based in Ultimo or Canberra. The officer provides high-level advice and representation to members on industrial matters and leads bargaining and drafting for enterprise agreements.

Key responsibilities

• Deal regularly with collective and individual industrial cases
• Lead enterprise bargaining, including negotiations, drafting agreements and preparing reports for members
• Advocate for members before the Fair Work Commission and other tribunals and courts
• Instruct counsel on complex matters
• Advise members and other officers on industrial issues and the interpretation of agreements
• Help prepare and deliver seminars and mentor less experienced colleagues
• Represent the union on external committees and work parties

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in industrial relations, law or an associated discipline
• Previous experience working in unions
• Expertise in advocacy and instructing counsel
• Thorough understanding of the federal industrial system and the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth)
• Commitment to trade unionism and/or social justice; a driver's licence is desirable

Required skills

• Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
• Excellent written, verbal and negotiation skills
