Independent Director (Remunerated) – Board Position

About the role

The Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation (BTAC) is seeking an Independent Director to join its board for a two‑year term. This remunerated position provides strategic oversight and governance for the corporation that represents the Thalanyji People under Native Title Determination WCD2008/003.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and strategic guidance to support BTAC’s growth and community development.
• Ensure high standards of governance and compliance with relevant legislation.
• Contribute to the development and execution of BTAC’s strategic plan.
• Promote effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, including Aboriginal communities and government bodies.
• Attend board meetings and undertake occasional intrastate travel as required.

Required profile

• Independent of BTAC and any related organisations.
• Minimum 3 years experience as a director of an Australian company or in a senior professional, financial or business management role.
• Demonstrated financial literacy and ability to interpret financial statements.
• Proven record of strategic planning (at least 5 years) and business development.
• High reputation and integrity; no disqualifying convictions.
• Ability to provide a Director ID and an acceptable National Police Certificate.
• Commitment to complete an approved governance training course within the first year.
