Hygiene Technician – Mining Operations

About the role

Karara Mining Limited is seeking an experienced Hygiene Technician to join its Health, Safety & Training team at the Karara magnetite mine in Western Australia. The role supports the Hygiene team in identifying, assessing and controlling occupational health hazards across the operation.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with regulatory authorities as required.
• Maintain certification of monitoring equipment and manage consumable stock.
• Conduct monitoring, measurement and reporting for ventilation, radiation, noise and other hygiene hazards in line with legislation and company policy.
• Report non‑conformances and ensure investigations and corrective actions are completed.
• Develop and deliver training and awareness programs on hygiene, noise and radiation standards.
• Provide safety leadership as a member of the Health, Safety & Training team.

Required profile

• Degree in Health Science or related field (beneficial) and Certificate IV in WHS.
• 1–2 years experience in occupational hygiene, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Regulations (2022) and the Radiation Safety Act.
• National Police Clearance and legal right to work permanently in Australia.

Required skills

• Use of occupational hygiene monitoring equipment.
• Sampling and analysis of workplace environmental hazards.
• Radiation, noise and ventilation monitoring.
• Proficiency with associated software applications and Microsoft Office.
