Hydrologist / Flood Modeller and Coder

About the role

A water engineering consultancy, WMA Water, is looking for a hydrologist or flood modeller with a strong coding background to join its special projects team. The role is based in Sydney and involves one-off projects such as online client data portals, analysis of large datasets and work with industry tools like the ARR datahub. The consultancy works for government, floodplain management authorities and water infrastructure owners, and operates offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in nationally significant flooding-related projects, including hydrology and numerical flood modelling
• Develop and support flood forecasting systems, dam investigations and advice on industry modelling
• Contribute to in-house and external software projects within a dynamic team
• Carry out research that will drive future practice
• Travel across the state and country for projects or conferences

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or another relevant field
• Some experience in flood management, hydrology and/or hydraulic modelling
• Experience in Python or R, or willingness to learn
• Ability to work collaboratively in a project team, with problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Required skills

• Statistical analysis and consulting experience highly regarded
• Desirable: experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (WBNM, RORB, URBS, TUFLOW, Infoworks ICM)
• Desirable: experience with ARR2019 and GIS (ArcGIS, MapInfo or QGIS)
