Hydraulic Workshop Technician

About the role

Mackay Fluid Power, part of APT Specialist Hydraulics and Training, is hiring a hydraulic workshop technician in Mackay. The team is small, so you will be one of a handful and your opinion on a job will carry weight. The work covers stripping, inspecting, repairing and rebuilding hydraulic components such as cylinders, pumps, motors and valves, plus kit and assembly work for mine contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Strip, clean, measure and inspect components, report what was found and its cause, and keep accurate job records in AroFlo.
• Rebuild and test cylinders, pumps, motors and valves to specification.
• Do assembly and kit work for mine contracts, building to a parts list and lead time.
• Keep stock counts accurate and keep the bench and workshop tidy.
• Work alongside the apprentice and trade assistant on site, showing them rather than supervising them.

Required profile

• A completed mechanical trade such as fitter and turner, mechanical fitter, diesel fitter, plant mechanic, boilermaker or heavy vehicle.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort measuring accurately to tolerance.
• Driver's licence and Australian working rights; the role is not sponsored.
• Hydraulics experience, machining, honing or chrome work, mining or heavy earthmoving background, and prior use of a job management system would help.

What we offer

• Pay of $47 to $60 per hour plus 12% superannuation, depending on trade and experience.
• Full-time, 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, under the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020.
• Fully funded MEM40119 Certificate IV in Engineering (Fluid Power) with a pay increase on completion.
• Workshop tools, test equipment, uniforms and PPE.
• Two possible career paths: Field Service Technician or Workshop Lead Technician.
