HR Business Partner – Government & Defence

About the role

Toll Group is seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to support its Government & Defence division. This hands‑on role provides commercially focused people solutions, leads employee relations matters, and drives culture, engagement and organisational change within a highly regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with operational and functional leaders to support business and workforce priorities.
• Coach leaders on performance, conduct, attendance and employee engagement.
• Manage employee relations cases, including grievances, performance concerns and workplace conflict.
• Support workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding and retention activities.
• Contribute to organisational change, engagement and culture initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Australian employment legislation, policies and governance requirements.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business or related discipline.
• Experience in an HR Business Partner or senior HR advisory role supporting both blue‑collar and white‑collar workforces.
• Sound knowledge of Australian employment legislation and industrial instruments.
• Ability to meet role‑specific security, probity and customer access requirements.

Required skills

• Proven employee relations and case management capability.
• Experience conducting workplace investigations and preparing defensible documentation.
• Strong coaching, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused HR advice.
