Health and Safety Advisor (Safety Officer)

About the role

A client of Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join its team in Townsville. Reporting to the Superintendent Health and Safety, the role promotes a positive safety culture, ensures legislative compliance, supports risk management and drives continuous improvement across site operations. It suits a proactive Health and Safety professional who wants to partner with leaders and influence safety culture in a large-scale industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert health and safety advice to managers and employees
• Conduct incident investigations and support corrective actions
• Deliver safety training, coaching and awareness programs
• Carry out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments
• Assist with safety reporting, compliance and regulatory requirements
• Support injury management, rehabilitation and return-to-work processes
• Promote incident prevention and continuous improvement programs
• Take part in site safety meetings, forums and workforce engagement activities
• Maintain compliance with relevant WHS legislation and management systems

Required profile

• Previous health and safety experience in an industrial, manufacturing, processing, mining, resources or heavy industry environment
• Strong knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and risk management principles
• Experience conducting incident investigations, audits and workplace inspections
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence at all organisational levels
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, able to work autonomously and in a team
• Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Nice to have

• Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety or a related discipline
• Lead Auditor, Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator and ICAM certifications
• Experience with ISO 45001 and exposure to Major Hazard Facility environments
