Head of Learning Area – English

About the role

Byford Secondary College is seeking a Head of Learning Area – English to lead its English curriculum across Years 7‑12. This permanent full‑time position starts in Term 4 2026 and forms part of the College Leadership Team, reporting directly to senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for the English learning area, overseeing curriculum development and delivery.
• Mentor and support a team of English teachers, fostering evidence‑based teaching practices.
• Lead the planning and implementation of ATAR English programmes and the Aspire partnership with the University of Western Australia.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to align English outcomes with the school’s Fogarty Edvance improvement framework.
• Monitor student progress, support differentiated instruction, and contribute to pathway planning for diverse learners.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as an English teacher and curriculum leader in a secondary school setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with diverse needs.
• Experience teaching ATAR English is highly regarded.
