Head of Department – Student Services (Temporary)

About the role

The Queensland Department of Education seeks an experienced educational leader to head Student Services at the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC). This temporary full‑time position runs from 17 August 2026 to 20 January 2027 and focuses on enhancing inclusive practices, student engagement, and educational outcomes for young people in the detention centre.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate case management and deliver targeted or intensive interventions for students.
• Monitor individual student data and adjust intervention strategies as needed.
• Develop school‑wide systems for high‑quality teaching and reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities, complying with relevant legislation.
• Lead the development of Teacher Aides and provide professional development opportunities.
• Manage a team of Induction and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Coordinators.
• Set high standards for student and staff performance and embed socially just practices.
• Provide strategic, future‑oriented leadership for the department.

Required profile

• Proven experience in educational leadership and student support services.
• Strong background in case management, intervention design, and disability accommodations.
• Ability to lead professional development and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strategic mindset with a commitment to inclusive and socially just practices.
