Graduate Lawyer – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term Programme in Brisbane

About the role

Avant Law is seeking a motivated Graduate Lawyer to join its Brisbane team for a 12‑month fixed‑term graduate programme. The role combines an 18‑week Practical Legal Training (PLT) with real legal responsibilities across multiple practice areas, offering a fast‑track entry into the medico‑legal sector.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, timely legal advice and services for claims and complaints against Avant members.
• Assist senior lawyers with legal research, case preparation and analysis.
• Draft legal documents such as briefs, memoranda, court filings and contracts.
• Review and summarise case files and related legal materials.
• Attend client meetings, court hearings and other legal proceedings as required.
• Provide administrative support, including case file management and client coordination.
• Stay updated on legal developments and changes relevant to the practice areas.

Required profile

• Completed or in the final semester of a law degree at an Australian university, with graduation by the end of 2026.
• Eligible to commence PLT in February 2027 and to be admitted as a solicitor thereafter.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong prioritisation, time‑management and self‑management abilities.
• Willingness to learn, accept feedback and work collaboratively.
• High computer literacy and ability to work in an electronic document‑management environment.
• Interest in the medico‑legal/health‑law sector is preferred.
