Geotechnician – Laboratory & Field Testing

About the role

Join SGS Australia’s Construction Materials Testing division as a Geotechnician in South Kalgoorlie. You will apply your expertise in both laboratory and field environments, delivering accurate testing and analysis of construction materials while supporting a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, log and prepare construction material samples for testing.
• Perform routine laboratory and field testing to relevant standards, using both destructive and non‑destructive techniques.
• Set up, calibrate and maintain testing equipment, ensuring reliable operation.
• Interpret work instructions, select appropriate procedures, and produce test reports for clients.
• Communicate with clients, book jobs, and provide timely results.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas, reporting hazards and contributing to continuous improvement.
• Support and develop Assistant Geotechnicians and Technical Assistants.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or a Civil Engineering qualification.
• Current unrestricted WA C Class driver’s licence.
• Previous experience in a laboratory environment.
• Approved NATA Signatory status in rocks, aggregate, concrete or masonry (preferred).
• Strong numeracy, organisational and information‑retention skills.
