Geotechnical Engineering Intern

About the role

A reputable host company in Melbourne is offering a Geotechnical Engineering Internship with meaningful work experience, strong supervision and a supportive environment. The company plans to offer permanent employment to a suitable candidate. Interns can work 3, 4 or 5 days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical site investigations, borehole drilling, SPT and soil/rock sampling
• Supervise field investigations, trial pits and in-situ testing
• Coordinate and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests
• Prepare borehole logs, soil profiles and geotechnical investigation reports
• Perform soil bearing capacity and foundation settlement analysis
• Carry out slope stability analysis and recommend stabilisation measures
• Design and assess retaining walls, gabion walls, soil nailing and rock bolting
• Provide geotechnical recommendations for roads, bridges, buildings, hydropower and tunnel projects
• Assess landslide hazards, rock mass conditions and ground stability
• Carry out construction site inspections and geotechnical supervision

Required profile

• Student of a relevant degree, recent graduate or skilled migrant
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Necessary technical and soft skills to perform the job
• Commitment to a career in the field of study
• Able to work at least 3 days per week
