Geomechanics Engineer (3-6 month contract)

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Geomechanics Engineer to join a large international service company on a 3‑6 month contract in Australia. The role will support exploration and production (E&P) projects by providing advanced geomechanical analysis and real‑time wellbore stability monitoring.
Key responsibilities
- Develop geomechanical models including in‑situ stress, geopressure and 3‑D earth models.
- Monitor wellbore stability in real time and perform pre‑drill and post‑drill analyses.
- Interpret logs, conduct rock testing and characterise formations for evaluation.
- Provide production support covering sand production, casing integrity and hydraulic fracturing design.
- Assess reservoir geomechanics such as fault reactivation, cap‑rock integrity and enhanced oil recovery scenarios.
- Apply expertise to shale gas, tight gas, heavy‑oil, CCS or injection projects.
- Utilise Flac3d for numerical simulations and model validation.
Required profile
- Minimum 15 years of experience in geomechanics within the oil & gas sector.
- Proven track record on E&P projects in Australia or similar environments.
- Hands‑on experience with CCS or injection projects is highly desirable.
Required skills
- Geomechanical modelling (in‑situ stress, geopressure, 3‑D earth models)
- Wellbore stability monitoring and analysis
- Log interpretation, rock testing and formation characterisation
- Sand production, casing integrity and hydraulic fracturing support
- Fault reactivation, cap‑rock integrity and EOR assessment
