General Hand (Grounds & Garden)

About the role

Inspired Education is recruiting a General Hand for Reddam House, a school in Sydney. The role keeps the school's buildings, grounds and equipment in good condition so that staff, students and visitors have a safe, clean and welcoming environment. It covers general handyman work, grounds maintenance and setting up events, and is full-time, 7am to 3pm.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain attractive, safe and well-presented grounds, gardens, car parks, pathways and outdoor facilities.
• Carry out mowing, weeding, pruning, planting and landscaping to a high standard.
• Prepare and maintain sporting fields, including mowing and line marking.
• Perform routine maintenance such as edging, weed control and upkeep of pond surrounds and landscaped areas.
• Keep grounds equipment and machinery safe and in good working order.
• Set up and support events, assemblies, presentations and examinations, including basic audio-visual and technology needs.
• Inspect the campus daily and report and resolve maintenance, safety and facility issues.
• Maintain, repair and relocate furniture, equipment and fittings.
• Coordinate deliveries, storage and movement of equipment.
• Report maintenance issues, support building safety checks, keep accurate records and work with staff and contractors.

Required profile

• Previous experience in maintenance, handyman, groundskeeping or facilities work, ideally in a school or education setting.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
• Experience operating and maintaining gardening equipment, machinery, tools and maintenance equipment.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Confident communicator able to work with staff, students, contractors and visitors.
• Willingness to work independently and to lift and move furniture, including occasional after-hours events.

Required skills

• Traffic control qualification (or willingness to obtain it).
• Experience with AV equipment or event technology is highly regarded.
