Full-Stack Software Engineer (Builder)

About the role

Stile, part of Curriculum Associates, builds educational software used by millions of students and teachers in classrooms across Australia and the United States. It is hiring a Builder (aka Engineer, Maker, Member of Technical Staff) in Melbourne to own problems end-to-end, from understanding the need to shipping and evolving the solution.

Key responsibilities

• Own problems end-to-end: understand the need, shape the solution, build, ship, observe and evolve.
• Work across the stack, avoiding silos.
• Work closely with designers and educators so context multiplies output.
• Use AI tools to save time on drudge work.
• Build in fast cycles: build, ship, learn, repeat every day.

Required profile

• Quick learner, able to start with 20 years of experience or straight out of school.
• Loves problems, ships a lot of impressive work and learns new skills, technologies and domains rapidly.
• Can articulate a clear vision of what better looks like and thrives on autonomy and feedback.
• Strong opinions, loosely held; enjoys disagreement and wants to convince others as much as being convinced.
• Cares about long-term results and about helping the next generation.

The team is about 70 people (around 20 engineers) and runs like a fast-paced startup. The role suits people who want to work in one area, who like detailed requirements before coding, or who prefer long planning cycles with rigid targets will not fit.
