Freight and Distribution Manager

About the role

Abbott, a global healthcare leader, is looking for an experienced Freight and Distribution Manager to join its team in Macquarie Park. The role leads, develops, implements and continuously improves the freight and distribution organisation for the medical devices business across Australia and New Zealand, covering import/export, order-to-delivery, warehouse operations and third-party vendors in line with all compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Own logistics and warehouse operations in the country and act as main interface between field customers and internal stakeholders
• Redefine systems, processes and organisational structures to improve warehouse efficiency and financial savings
• Develop strategies to improve service levels, optimise inventory and operating costs
• Set KPIs and benchmarks for logistics and warehousing, measure performance regularly and report to senior management
• Prepare an annual budget, schedule expenditures, analyse variances and take corrective action
• Implement freight and distribution policies, procedures and SOPs, and apply continuous improvement tools to fix root causes of issues
• Ensure compliance with Quality Management System requirements, including ISO and Abbott's internal quality policies, and partner with QA on validated storage, transport and handling processes
• Audit 3PL and transport partners on contractual, safety and quality standards
• Lead, develop and train an engaged team

Required profile

• Extensive experience in a highly regulated warehousing environment
• Bachelor's degree in supply chain or a related field, or equivalent preferred
• Experience managing 3PL, vendor or service provider relationships
• Experience using ERP systems and ERP-WMS interfaces
• Familiarity with industry regulations and safety standards
