Financial Reporting Manager - Insurance

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑established, medium‑sized insurance group to hire a Financial Reporting Manager for their Group Finance team in Sydney. Reporting to the Head of Financial Reporting, you will lead a small team and own the delivery of statutory and regulatory reporting while contributing to technical accounting, process improvement and finance projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of two finance professionals.
• Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
• Oversee statutory reporting and financial statement preparation.
• Ensure compliance with APRA, ASIC, AASB and IFRS reporting requirements.
• Review balance‑sheet reconciliations and maintain a strong financial control environment.
• Partner with auditors and coordinate the year‑end audit process.
• Provide technical accounting advice across the business.
• Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the reporting function.
• Support finance transformation and broader strategic projects as required.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified.
• Experience within the insurance industry is essential.
• Strong background in financial, statutory and regulatory reporting.
• Solid understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, particularly IFRS 17.
• Previous leadership experience, or ready to step into your first people‑management role.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
