Financial Controller – SKA-Low (Australia)

About the role

The SKA-Low Financial Controller is the senior finance professional responsible for the Australian financial ledger of the SKA Observatory. Reporting to the UK‑based Head of Finance and the SKA‑Low Telescope Director, the role ensures accurate reporting, budgetary control and compliance across the Observatory’s multi‑currency, multi‑ledger structure.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end accounting for the Australian ledger, including monthly, quarterly and annual close processes.
• Prepare and deliver timely financial reports to the Head of Finance, Director of Finance and local management.
• Lead or contribute to finance projects and present findings to the SKAO Finance Committee.
• Support the SKA‑Low Senior Leadership Team and the global Finance Leadership Team in strategic planning and implementation.
• Ensure compliance with SKAO policies, procedures and multi‑ledger reporting requirements.
• Coordinate domestic travel to Geraldton (≈ quarterly) and occasional international travel (≈ annually).

Required profile

• Extensive experience in financial management, preferably within large, multi‑entity organisations.
• Strong understanding of multi‑currency and multi‑ledger accounting.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate stakeholders in the UK and South Africa.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
