Financial Controller

About the role

This is a remote position where the Financial Controller will own financial control, forecasting, commercial analysis, cash flow, compliance and overall financial performance across all entities. The role goes beyond reporting – it requires independent analysis of variances, risk identification and delivering practical solutions to the Directors while operating with minimal direction.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a commercial finance partner to Directors, analysing margins, pricing, costs and profitability, and presenting clear options and recommendations.
• Own cash‑flow forecasting, budget preparation and monitoring, maintaining 3‑, 6‑ and 12‑month forecasts and conducting scenario analysis.
• Maintain the integrity of all Xero entities, oversee reconciliations, bank feeds, GL, fixed assets and manage the month‑end close process.
• Oversee accounts receivable, debt recovery and vendor payment strategies, identifying credit risks and duplicate payments.
• Ensure compliance with Australian payroll, superannuation, BAS, ATO and EOFY requirements, and manage relationships with external accountants and auditors.
• Lead and develop two junior offshore finance team members, setting standards, reviewing work and driving process improvements.

Required profile

• CPA or CA qualified with proven senior finance experience (Financial Controller, Finance Manager or equivalent).
• Strong Australian accounting background, including ATO, BAS, superannuation, payroll tax and EOFY compliance.
• Experience managing multi‑entity accounts and leading finance teams.
• Excellent communication skills with Directors and business owners.
• Construction, property, contracting or project‑based experience is highly regarded.
