Financial Controller – Infrastructure (Sydney)

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Financial Controller to lead financial control, reporting and governance for a growing infrastructure engineering services business in Sydney. The role sits at the intersection of finance and operations, providing real‑time insight across long‑cycle contracts and complex projects.

Key responsibilities

• Own month‑end, year‑end, management and statutory reporting.
• Manage project accounting including work‑in‑progress, revenue recognition and cost forecasting across multiple sites.
• Lead audit preparation and maintain year‑round audit readiness.
• Oversee accounts payable, payroll compliance and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Strengthen internal controls, delegations of authority and financial processes.
• Drive improvements in working capital, cash conversion and revenue recognition practices.
• Validate financial impact of contract variations, claims and performance.
• Partner with Commercial Finance and Operations to align financial control with project delivery.
• Lead and develop a finance team based in the Sydney head office.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified with 8+ years of finance experience in project‑based environments.
• Background in construction, engineering services, infrastructure or maintenance.
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting capability.
• Proven experience with project financials, margin analysis and cost forecasting.
• Hands‑on, accountable and able to translate data into practical insight for non‑finance stakeholders.
• Excellent communicator with influence across finance and operations.
