Financial Controller - Construction

About the role

Senior finance leadership role reporting directly to the CFO of a rapidly growing Australian business. The position leads financial accounting, payroll, compliance, audit and finance operations across a complex national organisation, influencing growth and maturity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team across accounting, payroll, AP and AR functions.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end close, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
• Manage statutory reporting, audit processes and external stakeholder relationships.
• Maintain strong balance‑sheet governance, reconciliations and financial controls.
• Oversee payroll operations and compliance, including STP, superannuation, payroll tax and related obligations.
• Manage BAS, FBT and other statutory compliance requirements.
• Oversee banking, payments, cash management and finance operations.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, systems and controls.
• Support the CFO with executive reporting, strategic initiatives and operational finance leadership.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified with tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar financial accounting leadership role.
• Strong technical accounting and statutory reporting expertise.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing finance teams.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across all organisational levels.
• Experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering, property or project‑based environments is highly regarded.
