Financial Controller – 6‑Month Contract

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing mid‑size professional services firm in Sydney, is seeking a Financial Controller on a six‑month contract to lead the finance function through a critical change agenda. Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the COO, you will own the month‑end close, controls and reporting rhythm while building a more structured finance operation.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the month‑end close, including timetable, journal entries, reconciliations and reporting to the CFO.
• Maintain balance‑sheet integrity and manage control accounts across a multi‑entity group.
• Oversee a transactional finance team, managing workflow, capacity and development.
• Produce cash, working‑capital and lock‑up reports, covering WIP, billing cycles and debtor days.
• Ensure statutory and compliance obligations are met across the group.
• Document current finance processes and redesign monthly and weekly routines to improve efficiency.
• Shift team effort from ad‑hoc tasks to repeatable, structured activities.
• Support rationalisation and integration of legacy finance systems.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified.
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior Finance Manager with hands‑on responsibility for month‑end close, balance‑sheet management and leading a transactional team.
• Track record of improving and restructuring a finance function.
• Experience in a professional‑services environment, preferably with work‑in‑progress, billing and lock‑up reporting.
