Financial Controller (3‑month contract, potential permanent)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join a well‑established financial services business in Melbourne on an initial three‑month contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent. Reporting to the CFO, you will own the full financial control function and lead the year‑end close process across all entities.

Key responsibilities

• Own and execute the end‑to‑end year‑end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating requests and managing timelines.
• Prepare statutory and management financial statements in line with Australian accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain and enhance the financial control environment, identifying gaps and driving improvements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a small finance team to maintain high‑quality performance.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise.
• Demonstrated experience in a financial services organisation, preferably within an ASX‑listed environment.
• Proven track record of managing external audit processes confidently.
• Hands‑on, ownership‑driven approach with the ability to deliver results.
• Commercial acumen to engage senior stakeholders effectively.
