Finance Manager

About the role

This hands‑on Finance Manager position supports a multi‑entity construction and engineering consultancy group with international operations. Based in a North Sydney office with harbour views, the role focuses on accurate reporting, cashflow management and financial control without direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accurate monthly management reporting and maintain full P&L and balance sheet integrity.
• Provide variance analysis, insight and reporting to senior leadership as the financial control layer.
• Own group cashflow forecasting and monitor working capital.
• Partner with business units to support financial performance and cost control.
• Work directly in Xero and ProjectWorks across reporting and financial data.
• Review and support AP, AR and payroll outputs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain financial controls, governance and compliance frameworks.
• Support EOFY requirements including BAS, PAYG and payroll tax.
• Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across entities.
• Drive process improvements, automation and system efficiencies.

Required profile

• Experience as a Finance Manager or progression from Senior Financial/Management Accountant level.
• Background in construction, engineering consultancy or similar project‑based environment (preferred).
• Strong capability in financial reporting, cashflow forecasting and commercial analysis.
• Solid understanding of financial controls, compliance and ATO requirements.
• Comfortable working directly in financial platforms with a hands‑on, detail‑focused approach.
• Ability to operate independently without a team underneath.
• Confident communicating financial performance to stakeholders.
