Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner

About the role

Bayside Mediation is seeking a full‑time Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner to join its on‑site team in Highett, VIC. The role offers flexibility to manage your own hours and diary while delivering child‑focused mediation services to separating families.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments and prepare case summaries.
• Facilitate child‑inclusive mediation sessions and support parents in negotiating parenting arrangements and property settlements.
• Manage documentation, ensure compliance with legislation and professional standards, and liaise with legal and community services.
• Maintain a safe, respectful environment and apply evidence‑based dispute resolution techniques.
• Contribute to service improvement, participate in supervision, and uphold the organisation’s values of empathy, neutrality, and child‑centred practice.

Required profile

• Accreditation as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner under Australian law (e.g., CHC81115 or equivalent).
• Understanding of primary care and community health in the context of family wellbeing.
• Knowledge of risk assessment, psychosocial impacts of separation, and appropriate referral pathways.
• Awareness of crisis response services for high‑risk situations, including family violence.
• Experience in mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiation with a trauma‑informed, child‑focused approach.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
• Desirable background in family law, social work, psychology, counselling, or related fields.
