Family & Carer Mental Health Support Worker

About the role

CatholicCare Wilcannia-Forbes is seeking a Family & Carer Mental Health Support Worker to deliver its Family & Carer Mental Health Program in the Western LHD area. The role supports carers and families affected by mental illness through education and individual support, and is based in either the Bathurst or Parkes branch. It is part time (3 days per week) on a maximum term contract until 25 June 2027, with possible extension if further funding is available.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver group education and skill development sessions and individual support to families affected by mental illness, as set out in the annual service plan.
• Provide ongoing intensive support to carers under a case management framework and conduct comprehensive needs assessments of referred families.
• Make referrals for additional support as required.
• Support mental health education programs delivered to local service providers and community organisations.
• Collaborate with CatholicCare Indigenous staff on culturally appropriate activities for Indigenous families.
• Meet regularly with the program team and build strong relationships with key support services.
• Follow workplace health and safety, child safety and safeguarding policies, and take part in supervision and risk reviews.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Mental Health, Community Services or a similar qualification, or working towards it.
• Understanding of the impact of mental illness on carers.
• Well-developed communication skills and empathy in building relationships with carers.
• Ability to deliver family and carer education sessions and to assess carer needs comprehensively.
• Strong personal values and commitment to the ethos of a Catholic organisation.
• Working With Children Check and a current NSW Police Check.

What we offer

• Hourly rate from $41.66, depending on experience, skills and qualifications, under the SCHADS award.
• Salary packaging of up to $15,900 per year tax free.
