Executive Manager – Tax Advising

About the role

The Executive Manager, Tax Advising will lead Group Tax’s advisory function, providing strategic tax advice and decision‑making across the bank’s global operations. Reporting to the General Manager, Group Tax, this senior position shapes tax policy, manages risk, and mentors a high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tax advice, sign‑off and decisions on global transactions and operations.
• Apply judgement in line with the Group’s risk appetite, policies and procedures.
• Identify and drive improvements in income tax processes.
• Assist in preparing financial reporting and statutory tax returns.
• Collaborate with other Executive Managers, business owners and senior stakeholders.
• Manage external advisor engagements in Australia and overseas.
• Interact with tax regulators as required.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and development for Senior Managers and staff.
• Act as Acting General Manager, Group Tax when needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of relevant tax experience in major consulting firms (Director/Partner level) or senior roles in multinational organisations.
• Proven stakeholder‑engagement ability with strong influencing skills.
• Commercial acumen with a balanced approach to regulatory and business outcomes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable in senior forums.
• Proactive risk mindset focused on sustainable, well‑controlled outcomes.
• Experience prioritising deliverables and managing complex change in fast‑moving environments.
• Capability to work across tax law, commercial issues and accounting concepts.
• Ownership of tax issues end‑to‑end, beyond technical opinion writing.
