Equine Medicine and Neonatology Fellow

About the role

Scone Equine Hospital, the largest equine veterinary practice in Australia, is offering a seasonal equine medicine and neonatology fellowship. The position starts on 27 July 2027 and runs until 20 December 2027, with a guaranteed exposure to many intensive neonatal and adult equine medicine cases. The fellow works alongside five equine medicine specialists caring for critically ill neonatal foals, adult horses and post-operative patients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care to critically ill neonatal foals, adult horses and post-operative patients.
• Work within a team of five equine medicine specialists; the hospital admits about 1000 medicine cases to its ICU per year, of which 150-200 are critically ill neonatal foals.
• Follow a 1 in 3 on-call roster for weeknights and weekends, with support from an equine medicine specialist for all on-call duties.
• Take part in weekly journal club rounds.
• A research project is encouraged.

Required profile

• Registered with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales.
• Suited to someone pursuing an equine medicine residency: a candidate who has completed an internship programme, a medicine resident who has recently finished their training, or a current ECEIM medicine resident in an alternate programme.
