Engineering Director – Core IT

About the role

Canva is looking for an Engineering Director to shape and deliver its Core IT strategy across multiple campuses in Australia and globally. You will translate business priorities into a technology roadmap, lead high‑performing teams and build a world‑class workforce technology experience.

Key responsibilities

• Set and execute Canva’s IT strategy, turning business goals into a coherent technology roadmap.
• Lead, develop and inspire high‑performing IT teams, fostering ownership and continuous improvement.
• Design and deliver end‑to‑end workforce technology services, from onboarding and device management to AI‑driven automation.
• Establish a data‑driven culture to measure service quality, prioritize work and communicate progress to executive stakeholders.
• Represent IT in organization‑wide forums, advocating for investment and strategic alignment.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading internal technology functions at scale with strong IT leadership credentials.
• Comfortable engaging with executive stakeholders and deep‑diving with engineering teams.
• Curious about how technology can improve work processes and able to manage operational complexity.
• Commercially minded, linking technology decisions to business outcomes.
• Track record of building high‑trust relationships and investing in people.

Required skills

• Experience with enterprise IT strategy, device and access management, and AI/automation tools.
• Strong data‑analysis capabilities for service measurement and risk identification.
