Engineer - Power Systems Software

About the role

The Engineering Developer Services team at AEMO is looking for a Software Engineer to develop and enhance power‑system analysis tools used by internal engineers and market participants. This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position that can be performed from multiple locations across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Write enterprise‑grade code using SQL, Python and Vue.js.
• Collaborate with Power System Engineers to refactor existing Python tools to meet enterprise standards, ensuring robustness and compatibility with AEMO’s in‑house platform.
• Add new functionality to Python‑based power‑system analysis applications.
• Promote a culture of strong customer support, excellent user experience and high software quality.
• Identify and advocate for process improvements.

Required profile

• Energy‑sector experience is desirable but not mandatory.
• Proficiency with Python quality‑assurance tools such as pylint, mypy and coverage.
• Experience with version‑control systems (e.g., Git) and test‑driven development.
• Knowledge of power‑system analysis and grid technologies (e.g., DERMS, SCADA) is a plus.
• Experience building graphical user interfaces with Vue.js is advantageous.
