Energy Markets Analyst

About the role

The Energy Markets Analyst will join a commercially focused Energy Markets team within a well‑backed renewable energy developer and asset owner. The role provides exposure to real‑time dynamics of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), supporting trading, asset optimisation and investment decisions across a growing portfolio of battery storage, wind and solar projects.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse market outcomes such as pricing behaviour, dispatch trends, volatility events and system dynamics.
• Investigate drivers behind major market events, including network constraints, renewable intermittency, outages and demand fluctuations.
• Assess asset performance against market conditions and identify opportunities to improve revenue capture and operational performance.
• Support trading and commercial teams with timely market insights and analysis.
• Monitor NEM fundamentals – demand, renewable generation, interconnector flows, transmission constraints and generator availability.
• Develop regular reporting, dashboards and analytical tools for internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to data‑infrastructure improvements and analytics capability.
• Support short‑term forecasting models for price, demand and renewable generation.

Required profile

• Prior experience within the Australian NEM or a comparable electricity market environment.
• Exposure to market analysis, trading analytics, system operations or related energy‑sector functions.
• Understanding of electricity market fundamentals, dispatch outcomes and price formation.

Required skills

• Strong analytical capability using Python.
• Experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
