Electrical Service Technician – Locomotive Maintenance

About the role

UGL Transport is seeking qualified Electrical Service Technicians to join its locomotive maintenance team at the Hunter Valley Maintenance Centre in Newcastle. This permanent, full‑time position works a standard 9‑day fortnight with day and afternoon shifts, supporting a 24/7 operation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on locomotives.
• Conduct mechanical fault finding, diagnosis and troubleshooting.
• Repair and maintain locomotive components and equipment.
• Operate workshop equipment and complete accurate maintenance documentation.
• Work safely and contribute to a positive team environment.

Required profile

• Australian‑recognised Electrical Trade Certificate and Certificate of Proficiency.
• Proven hands‑on experience in a maintenance environment.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative, team‑first attitude.
• Reliable work ethic with a focus on delivering high‑quality outcomes.

Required skills

• Operation of workshop equipment (e.g., forklifts, overhead cranes).
• Digital proficiency with computers and tablets for documentation.
